Sunday Shorts: Attack of the Tattoo

Our protagonist, Jeannie, is starting to realise that once you reach 12, parents believe it is illegal for you to be trick-or-treating, it would appear. She's pretty disappointed with her haul, so, knowing my standard trick-or-treat haul, she must have really gotten screwed over. The only "decent" thing she got was an awesome fake tattoo of a snake, because 12 year olds are usually into fake tattoos. However, she's even getting screwed over with the tattoo, because she has no idea how to get it to stick. Temporary tattoos: the Ikea edition. However, she eventually looks at the instructions (because if I can't figure something out, the instructions would obviously be my last port of call), which says it has to be applied using water warmed by the sun. "Nothing suspicious/cliche about that in the least," thinks Jeannie, so she finally gets the tattoo to stick. The end.

OK, not really. What actually happens is, snakes start coming out of Jeannie's arm. Don't you just hate it when transfers do that? She relentlessly tries to clean off the tattoo, remove the snakes, etc. Eventually, Jeannie's friend suggests that she just does the sensible thing and look at the flipping instructions. Why is it so hard for you to figure this out? Oh wait, I remember - Jeannie's a short story protagonist.

Because this story was relatively original, we need another cliche idea. So, it turns out that she needs to get it off using water that was exposed to a full moon. Knowing temporary tattoos, this could take a while. Eventually, she manages to get the snakes off using the magic cliche water, but somehow it gets out about how Jeannie got the tattoo to stick. The next day, Jeannie comes into school to find everyone wearing various different creature tattoos. They are presumably all dress coded and sentenced to 700 years of detention.

Yeah, OK, you know the drill with these stories. Fun to write about, not so much to read. Not much else to say, really.

Also, The Werewolf's New House recently broke the 1000 views mark. Thanks, guys!
